Currently January

It's that time again to do Farley's Currently for January. I love reading other people's "Currently" lists.

I just opened up my TPT store with a little freebie to use in a writing station. Since my goal is to simplify, I did just that with my writing station. I put away all of the little writing activities I had out because I was getting frustrated...frustrated that my kids weren't doing "real" writing. The only things I have out are their Writing Station Journals and the January Writing Prompt Menu I created (my freebie). I explained more about the menu in my store, on the 2nd page of the menu. My students' writing has much improved, and so has their motivation since they know they will have the opportunity to read their writing during our "check-ins"

Monday begins the Daily 5/CAFE grad class I am in. Some of you contacted me to find out how to get into the class/to find out more information. If you look at uiuonline.edu (University of Iowa), you should be able to find information. There will be a new session opening up soon. You can also go onto the Daily 5/CAFE site-that's where I first found out about it. And, the cost was so reasonable...$400-something!!! You can't beat that for a grad class!!! I am super excited.

If you do check out, and download, my freebie, please leave some feedback. I'd like to know if anyone used it/liked it.

  1. So I'm not the only one with the Tupperware problem? I hope you can find all of the lids. Best of luck to you in your TPT venture!

  4. I found you through Farley's blog!

I love the thought of a Daily 5/Cafe grad school class! Do the sisters actually host it? That sounds like all kinds of fun! I am hoping you post your new thoughts and ideas as you get into the class-you will be a great resource for me!!

PS I am your newest follower!

    1. I just saw your post on Lisa Mattes' Growing Firsties blog. I am planning to link up, but I doubt I will find anyone with fewer followers than me! To answer your question, the sisters don't teach the course, but they have a presence. Allison Behne, writer for the Daily CAFE site, is the instructor. I am really enjoying it so far.

    1. Did you see if you could register for the next session? Originally, I found the information for the course through the Daily CAFE site. It is through University of Iowa online. You can also contact Allison Behne through the Daily CAFE site-I'm sure she would be able to help you out. I highly recommend this course. All teachers should be made to take something like this in college. It would save so much frustration!

  6. That's awesome that there's a Daily 5 grad class. I just started implementing the daily 5 this year and still have a lot to learn about it. Thanks for checking out my blog. I'm excited to start following yours too!

    1. I am now in the 2nd week of the course, and I love it! Allison Behne (writes for the Daily Cafe site) is the instructor. Gail and Joan send short videos of themselves talking to us. I am currently reading through the first 6 chapters of The Daily 5. No matter how many times I read this text, I learn something new. I'm planning to post with some "Ah-ah" moments. My literacy stations have gone from stressful to stress-free. I'm lovin' it!
